Aside from being a nice looking little oranges, that we sell a lot of at Target, what actually is a clementine?? Until last night I had never eaten one, so I know little about them it’s time to find out more!!
The scientific name for a clementine is Citrus ×clementina. The fruit is a hybrid between a mandarin and a sweet orange. The fruit was named a clementine in 1902, Most sources say that the clementine’s creation was the result of an accidental hybridization. The first fruits were discovered by Father Clément Rodier in the garden his orphanage in Misserghin, Algeria. Bet you can’t guess where the name clementine came from can you?
